French Literature Set

French literature boasts some of the most important writers to ever put a pen (or quill) to paper. During the Renaissance, the work of François Rabelais helped lay the foundation for the modern novel. Centuries later, heavily influenced by Rabelais, Honoré de Balzac continued the novel’s evolution as a narrative form, and Gustave Flaubert perfected the art with Madame Bovary. Together, they formed the backbone of much of what we read today. This 8-volume collection of France’s most celebrated authors includes the work of Rabelais, Balzac, Flaubert, and many others. The books, published by Everyman’s Library, are wrapped in custom jackets featuring the iconic painting “Liberty Leading the People” by Eugene Delacroix.
