About Juniper Books
Who is Juniper Books?
Juniper Books is a specialty bookseller focused on building custom libraries and creating unique book sets. We offer over 300 book sets, from children's classics to cookbooks and popular series. Our sets are great gifts and add an unexpected design style to any room. Our book jackets are hand-folded, and each order is carefully packaged with care in our studio before being sent out. We source books from publishers we love and respect to make sure authors and estates are compensated for their hard work and creativity. We make and sell products one at a time and take care of clients one at a time. There is a cost to all of this, but we think it’s worth it.
Thatcher Wine, our founder, invented custom book jackets between 2008 and 2010. Our custom covers can change the look and color of any hardcover book, turn bookshelves into art installations, unify a home design, show off a corporate brand, and so much more. United States Patent No. 9,349,308 was granted to Thatcher and Juniper Books in 2016.
Every Juniper Books creation begins with the same handful of elements: high-quality, carefully curated books, creative and thoughtful designs, plus exceptional customer service. It takes more time and costs more to run a business this way, but we believe our customers are more than worth it.
Do you have a brick-and-mortar bookstore?
No, we do not, however, there is a bookstore called Juniper Used and Rare Books in Canada that we have heard is a wonderful place to visit. We are not affiliated with them.
Do you sell fake books?
All of our books are real printed books. For specific projects that call for fake books, we do have the ability to make them. Please get in touch with us for more details.
What differentiates you from other booksellers selling books-by-the-foot and other decorative books?
We are a small, privately owned company that works with our clients individually to source & curate the right books for each project. For decorative-only projects, we focus on the book's integrity, ensuring that even our gently used books look good for any space, private or commercial.
Do you sell rare books?
While we do not sell individual rare books, we understand the importance of including them in collections. We do occasionally source rare books for our large custom library projects. If you are interested in rare books on a smaller scale, some great resources we recommend are abebooks.com, abaa.org, or finding a rare and/or used bookseller near you.
International Ordering & Shipping
What is your international shipping policy? What will the cost be, and can I prepay VAT charges?
We ship all around the world! By adding the items you wish to purchase to your cart and beginning the checkout process, you will be shown various shipping options and pricing on the Shipping screen. Our shipping costs include potential import duties & taxes. By prepaying these taxes with us at checkout, you will not owe anything further to the carrier on delivery, and your order should move smoothly through customs!
Do you offer Shop Pay for international purchases?
Shop Pay is only available for purchases within the United States, but our international customers are welcome to use all major credit cards and PayPal for purchases on juniperbooks.com. Please get in touch with customer service for more information if you would like to send a check or arrange a Bank Wire transfer.
What currency are your prices listed in?
Our website can show our prices at checkout in our customers' local currency. We have set this up to make our website more user-friendly for international shoppers! You will be charged using your local currency. If you use a VPN or another type of IP masking, the currency will show whatever the local currency is for your device's region.
Order Questions
I need to change something on an order I placed, what is the process?
Please reach out to customerservice@juniperbooks.com within 12 hours of placing your order, and we will do our best to make the change!
Can you include a gift receipt in my order? Do you ship in branded boxes?
Every box will ship with an order receipt, but as we know that many orders are sent as gifts, pricing is always omitted! All orders ship in branded boxes unless otherwise specified. If you want your order shipped in an unbranded box, please put a note in the 'Special Instructions for Seller’ box on the first checkout page. If you have already checked out, please email customer service within 12 hours of placing your order, and we will be happy to help!
Will I get tracking information when my order leaves your studios?
Yes, the day your order leaves our studios, we’ll send an email to the email address on your order containing the tracking information. If you haven’t received an email, please check your spam/junk folders, as the emails can sometimes wind up there! If you still do not see an email, please get in touch with customer service, and we will be happy to help.
What is your Returns/Exchanges policy?
We accept returns of non-personalized items within 30 days after delivery. All custom and personalized products are final sales. Please see our Returns Page for more information, including how orders placed with Bitcoin are processed. There is a restocking fee of 10% for orders that include more than 25 single editions. Custom projects and Books by the Foot are all final sales.
Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Military Bases, and US Territories?
We offer shipping services to Alaska, Hawaii, Military Bases, and US Territories via FedEx.
I see multiple charges in my account, have I been charged more than once?
If you attempted your purchase more than once, you might see multiple ‘requests’ or pending charges in your account. Don’t worry, pending charges do not take funds from your bank account, only a successful transaction will, the pending charges should fall off soon. You will know that your order has gone through successfully when you see a ‘Thank you!’ confirmation screen and receive an email receipt with your order number (check your spam folder too).
What if a book or jacket I received is damaged?
If you received a damaged book or jacket, please take a photo of the specific area of concern and submit it to Customer Service within seven days of receiving your order. We stand behind every product we ship and will be happy to look into your order and assist you further.
How do I access my juniperbooks.com customer account?
You can create or access your customer account by clicking the Log In button at the top right of our website. To access information about prior orders, please log in using the same email address you used when placing your order. In your account, you can view prior and current orders and make changes to your subscriptions!
Custom Projects
Can I place a custom order?
We always work on custom orders, from a book set with a handful of titles to custom libraries with thousands of books. We encourage clients to contact us as early as possible, especially around the holidays, to ensure that we can provide the books and the design you are interested in by your deadline. The custom order minimum is $750. Sales and discounts cannot be applied to Custom. You can find more information about this service on our Custom FAQ page!
Can you design jackets for a collection of books I already own?
Yes! If they are books we currently offer, we will need to match ISBNs so we are sure your new jackets will fit your books precisely. If they are books we do not carry, we will need you to ship them to us. We have clients ship us their most cherished collections frequently from worldwide.
Product Information
Curious about when a specific set will be back in stock?
Our team is working tirelessly to keep our book sets in stock and ready to go for you! Any out-of-stock book set you see on our website will be back in stock as soon as possible, and we encourage you to press the "notify me" button on the product page to receive an email when the set is available again.
Are your books in English?
All of our Off-the-Shelf books and sets are written in the English language.
Do you sell International editions of Harry Potter?
We offer Scholastic’s Harry Potter set for the US edition, and Bloomsbury publishes the original UK editions we offer. Juniper Books is one of the only suppliers of UK editions in America!
What is the difference between the UK and US Harry Potter editions?
The difference between the US and UK editions includes a few colloquial changes to the voice of the writing. The UK edition is left in J.K. Rowling's original voice, while the US edition has been adapted for the US reader. Their size is a little different, too- the US version books are 9.25" tall while the UK Versions are 8" tall.
Can I pick my Harry Potter Mashup arrangement?
We can create your arrangement of our Harry Potter Mashup Set by custom printing the jackets in the order of your choice! Please get in touch with customer service if you are interested in creating a custom mashup set for an additional fee.
Can I buy the jackets without the books?
We offer a wide variety of Jackets-Only options for customers who already own the books in hardcover – explore our Jackets-Only Collection to see all of our Jackets-Only offerings! You will want to make sure your books’ ISBNs match exactly what we have listed on the product page within the ‘Includes’ tab to ensure that our jackets will fit as we do not allow returns of Jackets Only products.
Why do my ISBNs need to match those listed on the website for Jackets Only options?
If the ISBNs do not match, you run the risk of our jackets not quite fitting your books as they should. We list the ISBNs of the exact book we have sized the corresponding jacket to, and by verifying them, will ensure that our jackets will fit your books just right!
Your Narnia book set is not in chronological order, can you switch the order for me?
The order we have our book set in is the order the publisher issued them. We can create a custom set and reorganize the books under the same jacket design, though the underlying books will still have the publication order printed on the inside pages and numbered on the bindings. If you are interested, please email customer service for further information on reprinting the jackets in the order of your choice.
As future books come out in a series, will you add to the current sets and sell the new book and jacket alone?
Yes! Whenever we extend our existing sets with newly released books, we are sure to offer the new book & jacket, or jacket-only, as standalone purchases so those who already own the current set can easily add to it.
I have an idea for a book set - do you ever take suggestions?
We love suggestions, and we’re always excited to hear what fellow book fans are interested in having us add to our ever-growing collection. Please feel free to email any suggestions to customerservice@juniperbooks.com. We can always create a custom set for you too!
How can I clean my Juniper Books jackets?
We recommend using a microfiber cloth to rub away dust and/or fingerprints. If necessary, you can very lightly dampen the cloth if a dry cloth does not work.
Working With Us
I have a donation request, who can I contact?
We receive a lot of donation requests, and we wish we could contribute to them all. Please email customer service to tell us about your request.
Do you have a trade program for designers and others in the industry?
Yes, we offer a trade discount to design industry professionals! The discount is applicable on orders placed through our online store, custom, subscriptions, and our “books by the foot” category are excluded from discounts. You can apply for membership by visiting our trade page or emailing us at trade@juniperbooks.com with any questions.
Do you sell books for commercial projects?
Yes, we have worked with restaurants, hotels, co-working spaces, luxury residential buildings, retail stores, spas, offices, and other spaces. Please visit our trade page or portfolio for more information.
