Burning question: If the characters from The Lunar Chronicles had the opportunity to travel to present-day Earth, what modern invention or technology do you think they would find most fascinating or surprising?

This isn’t a “technology” so much, but they would be so confused by paper money! In the world of The Lunar Chronicles, everyone has chips input into their wrists that act as their IDs, GPS trackers… and their debit cards! They simply scan their wrist and their money gets deducted. They wouldn’t have the faintest idea what to do with coins or paper money, and would feel it was so unnecessarily complicated!

(On a side note, how excited was I when smart watches became available and were able to link with credit cards and be scanned to make purchases?? I felt like a fortune teller!)

If you could spend a day with one character from The Lunar Chronicles, who would you choose and what would you do together to have a memorable and fun adventure?

Definitely Iko! She’s so knowledgeable about the pop culture of her universe, and would know all the best places to go. I’m sure she’d want to go shopping (I wouldn’t mind an Iko-approved shopping spree…) then we’d catch a show in the New Beijing theater district, and probably finish the day by seeing if Captain Thorne could pick us up in the Rampion and take us sightseeing over planet Earth!

What do you think of our design for The Lunar Chronicles? Do you think fans will like it?

The designs are absolutely stunning! I am in love with the vibrant, beautiful colors, and how the design blends together this futuristic, techy vibe with the subtle fairy tale symbolism… exactly like in the books! I really think readers are going to love it.

If Cinder had this book set, where do you think she would display it?

She’d probably try to display it in her workshop… but I think Iko would ultimately steal it, because of her fondness for pretty things!

TLC fans are very active on social media, are you ever surprised by the popularity of the series and how engaged your fans are?

I am continuously amazed by the passion and creativity of my readers! From fanart to cosplay to merchandise to stunning photographs for Bookstagram and BookTok posts… it’s all so impressive to me, and I know how much their love for the series keeps the magic alive! I can’t wait to see how Bookstagrammers photograph the Juniper Books edition and share their content with the world.
