Banned Books Set
Books inspire us to look at our world with a critical eye and expose us to ideas we otherwise might not have experienced. The five books in this set are some of the best known and well-written classics in the world but also some of the most frequently challenged books by communities and governments. They've been banned for approaching controversial topics including religion and freedom of speech, as well as on the basis of "moral corruption."
We felt it was important to bring together these thought-provoking titles and to celebrate the authors who push us to question and look beyond our worldview, often at great risk to themselves and their craft. These novels have inspired discussion, debate, and change in our society since their initial publishing.
We designed a book band to bring together these novels into one connected set proudly displaying what they have in common while still showing off the iconic original book covers. The book band references redacted text, as a nod to the attempted censorship of these stories. Each book band is hand-sewn and printed on archival canvas. The elastic closure ensures easy removal and placement.
The books in this set are published by Little Brown, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Viking, Simon & Schuster, and Modern Library.
